Prospects of the Upcoming Philosophy

Metaphysics - cybernetics - transhumanism

2023.

Description

Across ten chapters, the book Prospects of an Upcoming Philosophy examines the relationship between philosophy and contemporary sciences, drawing upon the author’s interpretations of Hegel, Heidegger, Hannah Arendt, Thomas Kuhn, Vanja Sutlić, Deleuze, and Whitehead; notably, this work also marks the first instance in the author’s body of work where he engages in a philosophical analysis of astrophysics and cosmology. The central thesis is that, in the coming era, the scientific investigation into the most complex structures of the universe’s origin—as well as the cosmic-biological-technological evolution of humanity—necessitates the deployment of two fundamental concepts, in both an ontological and epistemological sense: measurability and visualization. In this way, it is demonstrated that philosophy, through its dialogue with the sciences, must itself cultivate a spirit of experimental thinking if it is to remain a credible "grand narrative" that transcends both metaphysics and cybernetics. Žarko Paić frames this book as a platform for "transversal thinking," which bridges the scope of Western metaphysics and cybernetics with the reach of interdisciplinary movements across science, philosophy, and culture—such as transhumanism. However, what distinguishes his ideas—both from the perspectives of traditional philosophy and from those of posthumanists and transhumanists—is his commitment to preserving the essence and purpose of philosophy, from its origins to the present day, while resisting the temptation to reduce it to anything external to philosophy itself. If the ‘goal’ of thinking is to be nothing but thinking itself, then philosophy—as the origin and historical destiny of this thinking, throughout its transformations from Heraclitus and Parmenides to the end of metaphysics in cybernetics and the emergence of the technosphere (in the form of artificial intelligence and artificial intuition)—must remain an eminently eccentric and experimental occurrence of freedom.
